WEST SALEM, OH – One person died on Friday morning along the interstate in northwest Wayne County after a 2-vehicle collision involving an 18-wheeler.
The incident occurred around 7:15 a.m. on the northbound side of I-71 near mile marker 196, which is just south of the I-71 North Rest Area.
The investigation thus far indicates that a Chevy Silverado pickup truck rear-ended a semi-truck, causing both vehicles to ignite.
The driver of the pickup truck died at the scene of the crash. Authorities have not yet disclosed their identity.
The truck driver did not sustain injuries in the accident.
The investigation is ongoing.
